Can Hines Be More Than a Decoy in Tampa?

I don't think there's any doubt that Hines Ward will play in some capacity in the Super Bowl. No matter what his capabilities are, it's a contribution to the team. I mean, who else are they going to throw to besides Santonio, Nate and Heath Miller? Limas Sweed? I think he's (along with Arians) is the Steelers counter to Matt Leinart for "Asshole least deserving of a Super Bowl ring".

Anyway, for a receiver or a back to completely rebound from a sprained knee in two weeks is going to take a minor miracle. I have no doubt he'll play most of the game, but how much of a factor can he be? As Baltimore showed, without Hines, the offense is pretty easy to stifle, especially when the running game isn't doing shit. If Arizona can get ahead early, and I imagine they'll be employing a lot of Whisenhunt trickeration to do just that, I have serious concerns about the passing game being able to keep pace.

We all know Hines is going to do everything it takes to rehab the knee, but what contingencies does the offense have if he's not all the way back?

It will be rough w/out him. He has been unbelievable - particularly on 3rd downs, which have saved Arians' life this year.

We have to hope that we have success running the ball.

I'm a little corncerned about the way we blitz Warner, he's tough to rattle & sack.

Yeah, but Warner does fumble like crazy if you do get to him.

Also - sweet picture. How often can you catch TWO asians in the same frame of an NFL picure (or, pictule)?

Clazy.

I know it's not the same as passing to Ward, but why not use Moore as a receiver out the backfield? It would keep the Buzzsaw defense closer to the line and create a possibilty of Holmes breaking one long.

Limas might not be a complete bust--remember, Plaxico dropped everything thrown to him his first season. We just have to keep Limas away from guns and strip clubs...

Maybe I've blocked it out, but I don't remember Plaxico being THAT bad his rookie year. But then again, Limas hasn't spiked the ball before being tackled. Probably because he never catches it in the first place.

Mewelde also has a sprained ankle, but he'll play, too.

If I'm Arizona, I double-team Santonio, bring Adrian Wilson up to stuff the run, and dare the Steelers to beat them with Nate Washington and, gulp, Limas Sweed.

Oh-oh.

I think Hines will be fine as a slot receiver in this game. He'll be able to get the underneath stuff, but I don't see him getting any 15+ yard catches. Then again, I was worried about Troy's health before the AFC Title Game, so maybe this will work out too.

Kurt Warner is a pussy...you get to him a couple of times, and he is a turnover machine. Anyone remember his stint as the Giants QB? Look at the Jets/Cards game this year as well as the Giants/Cards. Sack him a couple of times, and he turns into the largest free floating vagina in the world.

Hell, his wife is more butch than him.

Really, enough with the Sweed bashing. He's a rookie. WR is one of the harder positions to adjust to in one's first year. He runs good routes, and he has size and raw talent. The dropsies can be unlearned.

Anonymous is right to compare him to the frustrations of young Plaxico. His devastation of Ivy in the Ravens game puts him on the positive side of the ledger for me. Whether he turns into the next Plaxico Burress or the next Troy Edwards is yet to be seen, let's cut him some slack in the meantime. He can go either way. Let's not turn into Philadelphia fans.

At any rate, he's not an asshole, and plenty of bench-riders will be getting a ring this year undeservedly. Duce Staley has a ring, right?

Plaxico actually got on the field his rookie year though...Sweed was inactive for a good amount wasn't he? Dallas fucking Baker was higher than him on the depth chart.
