Harrison Gets MVP Votes - Good Enough for Me

Like most people, I'm bemused and irritated at the selection of Peyton Manning as league MVP, but then it's got to go to some big name white QB, so why not one who waited too long to get off-season surgery, then milked the sympathy from the media afterwards?

Frankly, there wasn't much a chance the award was going to go to either Harrison or Polamalu, being that they cancel each other out by being standouts on a great defense. Harrison got three votes for the award and Troy got none. And that's fine. Like Pro Bowl nods (Pey-Pey's award ranks up there with Favre going to Honolulu), I'm not huge on individual awards. They're decided by mainstream writers who are swayed as much by how much they like and identify with players than their actual impact on games. I think Michael Turner deserved it more than anyone else, actually.

Never touched upon Cowher turning down the Browns and the Jets. So...

Huzzah!

Especially Cleveland. I think Cowher wanted to hear out the Browns just to see if they'd actually have the astronomical offer it would take to deal with that kind of grief from Pittsburgh fans. It looks as though he'll be sitting out the 2009 season as well, and I gotta say I credit him for that. Bill's waiting out the right offer, rather than rushing into a situation where he'd be coaching Brett Favre.

Liking the news that Ryan Clark appears like he'll be ready for next week. The news on Ben is still mostly sparse this week. Hopefully definitive status reports will be forthcoming early next week.

Looking forward to an entertaining slate of first-round games this weekend after a tense final month and a half of the regular season. I'll be back Sunday with a post when we know the Steelers' opponent for the 11th.

Yeah the “value” factor is too hard to judge.

Sure, like Peter King says Manning saved the Colts season, but would the Falcons turnaround have been completed if they didn’t sign Turner? Would the Vikings have squeaked into the playoffs without NFL leading rusher Purple Jesus? I say they would not! You could probably even argue the Greatriots would be 5-11 (or worse) if they had someone like Dan Orlovsky and not Matt Cassel as their #2 QB in the beginning of the season. Isn’t that more value than Manning, in the pure definition of the word?

Go down the list and it’s not hard to find excellent players on just about every team that could be about just as good a candidate as anyone else.

The only kinda cool thing about this is the amusing anecdote coming in the paper about Silverback "not caring" about the vote or however he'll brush it off. Which would be the exact same response if he won the damn award.

Of course. But defensive players don't win the MVP. Last time was LT in '86. So I doubt Harrison was expecting it.

I threw-up a little when you called them the "Greatriots"...Douchebag Bill is an evil genius and could have turned in an 11-5 performance with Bruce Gradkowki at the helm.

James Harrison is sick but I would have gone with Michael Turner. Philip Rivers, aka Marmalard, is the only reason we snuck in to the playoffs, so he should have got a couple more votes.

Having said that, we beat the Colts by two scores"ish" 38-23 and we'll see The Steelers on the 11th...no, seriously.
